GDC 2023 Presentation - The Material Art of The Last of Us Part I - by Jonathan BENAINOUS

I recently had the great pleasure of giving a talk for Adobe and Substance at GDC 2023 alongside my friend and co-worker, Jared Sobotta. During this presentation on "The Material Art of The Last of Us Part I", we discussed the texture art pipeline at Naughty Dog, providing insights on the team's dynamic for success.

In this talk, I shed light on the challenges of creating man-made, architectural materials for the Boston Capitol Building, as well as the creation of procedural generators with Substance 3D Designer to speed up the team's process and author over 100 materials. Jared focused on natural, organic art and the marriage of Substance 3D Designer and organic sculpting for Tommy's Dam in the second part of the presentation.

Giving a talk at GDC for the third time was an amazing experience, and I would like to thank Adobe, Substance, and Naughty Dog for giving me the opportunity to be a part of it.
